An AI SEO agency gets your pages found, read and cited by AI search: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. The real work is crawler access, indexable pages, clear answers, consistent facts about your brand across the web, and measuring citations. Google says AI features need no special markup or files, so any agency selling a secret trick is overselling.
01What does an AI SEO agency actually do?
An AI SEO agency does classic SEO, then adds the work that decides whether AI answer engines can reach, trust and quote your pages. The search engine still has to crawl and index you first. What changes is the target: instead of only a blue link in position three, you also want to be one of the sources an AI answer is built from.
In practice, the AI-specific work falls into five areas:
- Access for each crawler. Google, Bing, OpenAI and Perplexity each use their own crawlers. A firewall rule or an old robots.txt line can quietly remove you from one engine while the others work fine.
- Answer-shaped pages. A direct answer in the first sentence of each section, facts stated plainly, tables for comparisons, and one main topic per URL. Bing's own guidance for AI answers recommends clear headings, tables and FAQ sections.
- Entity consistency. Your name, services, prices, address and founders described the same way on your site, your Google Business Profile, directories and press. AI systems combine many sources; contradictions make you a weaker source.
- Freshness. Old prices and dead pages get quoted. Updating pages and notifying engines quickly matters more when an AI repeats what it read.
- Citation measurement. Tracking where your brand is cited, for which questions, and what traffic that brings.
02AI SEO company vs. a traditional SEO company: what's new and what's rebranded
An AI SEO company should change what it measures and how it writes, but most of the underlying work is the same SEO done carefully. That is not a criticism. It means you should pay for the substance, not the label.
| Activity | Rebranded SEO or genuinely new? | What to expect from a good agency |
|---|---|---|
| Technical SEO, indexing, site speed | Same as before, and still the foundation | Fix what blocks crawling and indexing first |
| Keyword research | Extended: AI search answers longer, conversational questions | Map the questions buyers ask, not only short keywords |
| Content writing | Changed: answer-first structure, verifiable facts, tables | Pages that can be quoted sentence by sentence |
| Structured data (schema) | Same: useful, but not an AI ranking switch | Markup that matches the visible text |
| Robots.txt for AI crawlers | New: separate search and training bots | A written crawler policy per engine |
| "llms.txt" or "AI files" | Not required by Google | Optional at most; never the core deliverable |
| Brand mentions and digital PR | Grown in importance | Real coverage in relevant publications, not paid link farms |
| Reporting | New: citations and AI referrals | Citations per engine, AI referral traffic, leads |
If a proposal is mostly the left-hand column with "AI" added to each line, you are being sold standard SEO at an AI price.
03What Google officially says about AI features and your website
Google's position is simple: the pages that appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode are chosen from its normal index, using its normal systems. Its Search Central page "AI features and your website" says a page must be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet to appear as a supporting link, and that there are no extra technical requirements.
The same page makes three points every buyer should know:
- No special files or markup. Google says you don't need new machine-readable files, AI text files or special schema.org markup to appear.
- Query fan-out. AI Overviews and AI Mode may run several related searches across subtopics to build one answer. A page that covers the subtopics of a question well has more chances to be pulled in.
- No separate report. Traffic from AI features is counted inside the Search Console Performance report under the "Web" search type. Any agency claiming it can show you "Google AI Overview clicks" from Search Console alone should explain exactly how.
Google also controls what can be shown through the normal tools: nosnippet, data-nosnippet, max-snippet and noindex. Blocking snippets to "protect" content can also remove you from AI answers, so this is a business decision, not a technical default.
04How ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot pick their sources
Each AI search engine has its own crawler and its own rules, so expert SEO services for Google AI and AI search engines start by checking access to all of them, one by one.
| Engine | Crawler that decides search visibility | What blocking it does | Separate training bot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews / AI Mode | Googlebot | Removes you from Search, including AI features | Google-Extended (for some other Google AI systems) |
| ChatGPT search | OAI-SearchBot | Pages are not shown in ChatGPT search answers, though they can still appear as navigational links | GPTBot |
| Perplexity | PerplexityBot | Full and partial page text is not indexed | Perplexity says it does not use content to pre-train foundation models |
| Microsoft Copilot and Bing AI summaries | Bingbot | Removes you from Bing and the AI answers grounded on it | — |
The practical lesson from OpenAI's crawler documentation: OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot are separate. You can allow OAI-SearchBot so you appear in ChatGPT search and still disallow GPTBot if you don't want your content used for model training. OpenAI says changes to robots.txt can take about 24 hours to take effect in search.
On the Microsoft side, Bing Webmaster Tools now has an AI Performance report (public preview since February 2026) that shows how often your pages are cited in Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing and some partner integrations, along with sample "grounding queries". Bing states that these citation counts do not indicate ranking or the role of a page within an answer. It is still the most direct official citation data any engine gives site owners today.

05AI-powered SEO services vs. AI-driven SEO consultants
The two phrases describe different things, and buyers often mix them up.
AI-powered SEO services usually means an agency uses AI tools inside its own workflow: faster keyword clustering, content briefs, internal-link suggestions, log analysis. That can make work cheaper and quicker. It does not, by itself, make you more visible in AI answers. Ask what a human checks before anything is published.
AI-driven SEO consultants usually means advisers who focus on how AI search works and audit your visibility in it: crawler access, citations, entity consistency and content gaps. They may not execute the work.
Watch one risk closely. Google's spam policies name "using generative AI tools or other similar tools to generate many pages without adding value for users" as an example of scaled content abuse. An agency that promises hundreds of AI-written pages a month is not selling AI SEO. It is selling a penalty risk.
06How to read "top AI SEO agencies 2026" lists
Treat any list of top AI SEO agencies for 2026 as a collection of names, not a ranking. When we checked the lists that rank for this search, most were published by an agency that placed itself first, or by a directory or software vendor with its own commercial interest. None we found used published, repeatable scoring that you could check yourself.
Use the lists like this:
- Collect five to eight names that work with businesses like yours, in your language and market.
- Check their own visibility. Ask ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Google for the services they sell. An AI SEO agency nobody cites is a signal.
- Ask for dated evidence. Search Console screenshots with the date range visible, Bing AI Performance citation data, analytics showing referrals from AI engines.
- Score them with the table below, then shortlist two for a call.
07A vetting table for any AI SEO agency
Score each agency from 1 to 5 on every row, multiply by the weight, and add up. The highest total gets the first-phase trial, not a long contract.
| Question to ask | Good answer | Worrying answer | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Can you guarantee we appear in AI Overviews or ChatGPT? | No. Google says meeting its requirements doesn't guarantee being shown. Here is what we control. | Yes, within 30 days | 3 |
| How will you measure AI visibility? | Search Console, Bing AI Performance, AI referral traffic, a fixed list of test questions per engine | A single "AI visibility score" from their own tool | 3 |
| What will you do in month one? | Crawler and indexing audit, robots.txt policy, fixes to top pages | Publish 50 new articles | 2 |
| Who writes and reviews content? | A named writer and an editor who checks every fact | "Our AI engine" | 2 |
| What do you need from us? | Access to Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, analytics; subject-matter input | Nothing, we handle it all | 1 |
| What happens if numbers don't move in 90 days? | A written review and a change of plan | "AI takes time," with no data | 1 |
Google's own advice on hiring an SEO is blunt: "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google." The same applies to AI answers, which change from one question to the next.
08A 90-day AI SEO plan you can hold an agency to
A credible plan front-loads access and accuracy, then builds content and authority. Here is the shape we would expect from any agency, including us.
- Days 1–15: Access and baseline. Check robots.txt, firewall and CDN rules for Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot. Verify Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. Write 30 to 50 real buyer questions and record which engines cite you, and who they cite instead.
- Days 16–30: Fix what blocks indexing. Index coverage errors, slow or script-only pages, duplicate pages competing with each other, missing or wrong canonical tags.
- Days 31–45: Make facts consistent. One correct version of your services, prices, address and team on your site, Google Business Profile, Bing Places and main directories.
- Days 46–75: Rewrite the pages that matter. Your top service pages and the questions from step one: direct answer first, a table where buyers compare, sources for claims, an FAQ section, a visible update date.
- Days 61–90: Earn mentions. Original data, expert comments and case studies that relevant publications want to cite. No bought links.
- Day 90: Re-test and report. Re-run the same question list on each engine, compare citations and AI referral traffic with the baseline, and decide what to change.
The order matters. Content written before access and indexing are fixed often goes nowhere.
09What does an AI SEO agency cost?
Prices for AI SEO vary widely, and many agencies don't publish them. A higher price does not mean better AI visibility; compare the written deliverables in the vetting table, not the label.
For reference, these are our published prices at Win Market Agency:
| Service | Price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| SEO audit | Free | Technical, content and AI-crawler access review with a prioritised fix list |
| SEO, including AI search visibility | USD 500 per month | Technical SEO, content, crawler policy, entity consistency, monthly reporting on rankings, citations and leads |

Win Market Agency is an SEO and digital marketing agency in Cairo, Egypt, working remotely with clients worldwide. Our SEO service covers Google and AI search together, because the same foundations serve both. Two results we can show with dated data: a property site that grew from 39 to about 200,000 monthly organic visits after we cleaned up a manufactured link profile of 841,000 backlinks from only 36 domains (case study), and a site losing 21,000 keywords in 30 days that went from 54,900 to 102,000 ranking keywords after our work (case study).
Run the vetting table on us too. If you want to start with evidence, ask for the free SEO audit and judge the findings before paying anything.
?Frequently asked questions
What is an AI SEO agency?
An AI SEO agency optimises your website so it ranks in search and is cited in AI answers from Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot. Its work covers crawler access, indexable pages, answer-first content, consistent brand facts and measuring citations.
Is AI SEO different from regular SEO?
Partly. Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode use the same index and need no special optimisation, so technical SEO and helpful content still come first. What's new is managing separate AI crawlers, writing quotable answers, and tracking citations as well as rankings.
How do I get my business into Google AI Overviews?
Make sure your pages are indexed and allowed to show a snippet, answer the question clearly near the top, cover related subtopics, and keep facts consistent across the web. Google says no special schema or file is required, and that meeting its requirements doesn't guarantee being shown.
Do I need an llms.txt file to rank in AI search?
Not for Google. Google's documentation says you don't need new machine-readable files or AI text files to appear in its AI features. Treat llms.txt as optional, and be wary of any agency selling it as the main fix.
How can I tell if my site is cited by ChatGPT or Copilot?
For Copilot and Bing AI summaries, use the AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools. For ChatGPT, check that OAI-SearchBot is allowed, then test a fixed list of buyer questions in ChatGPT search each month and track referral traffic from chatgpt.com in your analytics.
How much does an AI SEO company charge?
It varies widely, and many don't publish prices. Win Market Agency charges USD 500 per month for SEO including AI search visibility, and the initial SEO audit is free.
How long does AI SEO take to show results?
Access fixes can show within days; OpenAI says robots.txt changes take about 24 hours to reflect in ChatGPT search. Content and authority work usually needs at least three months before it's fair to judge, which is why a 90-day plan with a baseline matters.
