Finance SEO Agency: How to Choose One for Financial Services

The short answer

A good finance SEO agency treats your site as a "Your Money or Your Life" (YMYL) topic: every page has a named, qualified author or reviewer, a compliance sign-off before it goes live, accurate and dated facts, and a technically secure site. It grows search traffic without making claims your regulator would reject, and it never promises a #1 ranking.

01Why SEO for financial services is different: finance is YMYL

Finance is different because Google classes money topics as YMYL, and holds them to its highest quality standards. Google's Search Quality Rater Guidelines (September 2025 edition) define YMYL as topics that "could significantly impact the health, financial stability, or safety of people". "YMYL Financial Security" covers topics that could damage a person's ability to support themselves and their families. The guidelines give "how to invest money", "filling out tax forms" and "saving for retirement" as examples.

Three points in Google's own documents shape everything a finance SEO agency does:

  • Trust comes first. Google's guide to helpful, reliable, people-first content says that of experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust (E-E-A-T), "trust is most important", and that its systems give extra weight to strong E-E-A-T on YMYL topics.
  • Who wrote it matters. Google asks whether pages "carry a byline, where one might be expected" and warns that fabricated author profiles are deceptive. The rater guidelines tell raters to give a Low rating to YMYL pages with too little information about who is responsible for the site or who created the content.
  • Reputation is judged by experts. For YMYL topics, raters are told to judge a site's reputation by "what experts in the field have to say", not by what the site says about itself.

Quality raters do not rank pages, but the guidelines show what Google's systems aim to reward: accuracy, named expertise and clear accountability.

02What an SEO agency for financial services should actually do

A finance SEO agency should do normal SEO well, plus four things a general agency usually skips: compliance-aware content, expert authorship, trust-focused technical work, and reporting that your risk team can read.

AreaGeneral SEO agencyFinance SEO agency
ContentWrites for volume and keywordsWrites for accuracy; every page has a named author and reviewer, dated facts and a compliance sign-off
Claims"Best rates", "guaranteed returns" if they convertNo promissory or unbalanced claims; risks shown as clearly as benefits
AuthorsGeneric "admin" or brand bylineReal people with relevant credentials, each with a profile page
TechnicalSpeed, crawlability, indexingAll of that, plus security, privacy pages, contact details and safe handling of calculators and forms
LinksAny link that moves a metricEditorial links from relevant, reputable sites; no paid or spam links
ReportingRankings and trafficRankings, traffic, leads and applications, plus a log of what was approved and when

03Compliance constraints on finance content

Most regulators treat financial web content as marketing, so the rules for your adverts usually cover your blog posts and landing pages too. This is a general overview, not legal advice; your compliance team decides what applies.

Three examples:

  • US investment advisers: the SEC Marketing Rule. Rule 206(4)-1 under the Investment Advisers Act, with a compliance date of 4 November 2022, sets general prohibitions on misleading advertisements, conditions for testimonials and endorsements, and rules for showing performance. For example, gross performance generally has to be shown with net performance, and performance usually needs 1-, 5- and 10-year periods.
  • US broker-dealers: FINRA Rule 2210 (communications with the public). Communications must be "fair and balanced" and may not contain any "false, exaggerated, unwarranted, promissory or misleading" statement. They generally may not predict or project performance. A registered principal must approve retail communications before use, some must be filed with FINRA, and records must be kept, including first-use dates and the approver's name.
  • UK firms: FCA financial promotions. The FCA says all financial promotions must be "clear, fair and not misleading regardless of the media type", and that a promotion can be a website or a social media post. Its social media guidance (FG24/1) applies the same standard online.

Banks, lenders, insurers, accountants and firms in other countries have their own rules. The practical point is the same everywhere: any page that mentions a product, rate, return or recommendation needs your firm's review. Check with your compliance team before it goes live.

04A content review workflow that keeps you compliant

The workflow that works is a fixed chain: writer, subject expert, compliance, publish, then scheduled review. Each step has an owner and leaves a record.

StepOwnerWhat they checkOutput
1. BriefSEO leadSearch intent, questions to answer, sources to use, product pages to linkWritten brief with target keyword and outline
2. DraftWriterAnswers the question plainly; every fact has a primary sourceDraft with sources listed
3. Expert reviewQualified subject expert (adviser, accountant, analyst)Accuracy, missing risks, examples that could misleadCorrections and the reviewer's name
4. Compliance reviewYour compliance team or approverClaims, disclosures, balance, product and jurisdiction rulesApproval, with date, or required changes
5. PublishSEO lead and web teamByline, reviewer line, "last reviewed" date, schema, internal linksLive page and a copy kept on file
6. Scheduled reviewContent ownerRates, rules, tax years, product changesUpdated page and new review date

Build this into the timeline from week one. Review takes time, so a realistic plan publishes fewer, stronger pages. Keep the approved version and approval date for every page; under FINRA, record-keeping is a rule.

05Author and reviewer pages, and the schema behind them

Author and reviewer pages tell readers and search engines who stands behind your advice. Google recommends accurate bylines where readers expect them, and finance readers always expect them.

  1. Give every article a named author. Use a real person, with a short line on their role and qualifications, linked to a profile page. Never invent a person.
  2. Add a reviewer line. "Reviewed by [name], [qualification]" plus a "last reviewed" date shows that a qualified person checked the facts.
  3. Build a profile page for each person. Role, qualifications, topics covered, how credentials can be checked (such as a public register entry), and the articles they wrote or reviewed.
  4. Mark it up. Use schema.org Person for authors and reviewers, author on the article, and the reviewedBy and lastReviewed properties on the WebPage. Mark your firm up as an Organization (or a more specific type such as FinancialService for branches), with contact details that match the page.
  5. Make the "About" and "Contact" pages complete. Google's rater guidelines say sites that handle financial transactions need extensive contact and customer service information.

Schema does not create trust. It describes signals that must already be visible on the page.

06Local SEO for branches and advisers

Local SEO matters for banks with branches, insurance brokers, accountants and independent advisers, because many clients still search for a nearby, named person. Google Business Profile has specific rules for financial planners and insurance agents, which it calls individual practitioners.

  • A practitioner can have their own profile if they are public-facing and can be contacted directly at the verified location during stated hours. Support staff should not have profiles.
  • If an adviser is the only public-facing practitioner at a branded office, Google recommends one shared profile named "[Brand]: [Practitioner name]".
  • The business name must be the real-world name. Adding extra words, such as "Best Financial Advisor Cairo", is not permitted and can lead to suspension.
  • Each branch needs its own location page on your site, with the address, hours, the advisers who work there and the services offered at that branch.

Reviews, posts and replies on a profile can count as communications under financial rules, so agree with compliance how they are handled. More in our guide to local SEO services.

07Technical and security trust signals

Technical SEO for a finance site has two jobs: let search engines understand every page, and show users the site is safe with their money and data.

CheckWhy it matters for finance
HTTPS on every page, with no mixed contentUsers enter personal and financial data; browsers warn on insecure pages
Clear contact, complaints and regulatory status pagesRaters look for who is responsible; regulators often require status disclosures
Fast, stable pages on mobileCalculators and application forms are often abandoned when slow
Calculators and tools that crawlers can readTools earn links, but only if the explanation around them is visible text
Correct canonical tags on rate, product and regional pagesFinance sites often duplicate pages by product, term or region
Logged-in and application pages blocked from indexingKeeps private journeys and thin form pages out of search

08Fintech SEO: what changes for apps and platforms

Fintech SEO adds product-led search to the YMYL rules: people search for features, comparisons, fees and how-to questions, often before they know your brand. A fintech site usually needs:

  • Feature and use-case pages written for the job the user wants done ("send money to Egypt", "invoice in USD"), each with clear fees and limits.
  • Comparison and alternative pages that are fair and balanced. Comparisons must disclose material differences under rules such as FINRA 2210, and similar standards apply elsewhere.
  • Help centre and glossary content that answers real questions in plain language.
  • Country pages that reflect where the product is actually licensed, with the right legal entity and disclosures for each market.
  • AI search visibility. Pages that state facts plainly, with named sources, are easier for AI answers to quote. See our guide to AI SEO.

09What to ask a finance SEO agency before you hire

Ask these in the first call. Google's own advice on hiring an SEO includes asking about experience in your industry and country, and whether they will share every change they make.

Check link quality closely. One site we took over had 841,000 backlinks from only 36 domains, built by its previous provider. After a clean-up and real outreach it grew from 39 to about 200,000 monthly organic visits, with referring domains up from 36 to 1,230 (case study). In finance, spam links are a risk you do not need.

?Frequently asked questions

What is a finance SEO agency?

A finance SEO agency is an SEO agency for financial services firms such as banks, fintechs, brokers, insurers, advisers and accountants. It adds named expert authors, compliance sign-off for every page and trust-focused technical work to standard SEO.

Why is SEO for financial services harder than in other industries?

Google treats money topics as "Your Money or Your Life" and applies its highest quality standards to them, and regulators treat most web content as marketing. Pages need qualified authors, accurate dated facts and compliance approval.

Does content on a financial website need compliance approval?

In most regulated firms, yes. FINRA requires a registered principal to approve retail communications before use, and the FCA says all financial promotions, including websites, must be clear, fair and not misleading. Rules differ by country and firm type, so check with your compliance team.

What is E-E-A-T in finance SEO?

E-E-A-T stands for experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust. Google says trust is the most important of the four and gives extra weight to strong E-E-A-T on YMYL topics such as finance. In practice: real authors, qualified reviewers, accurate sources and complete contact details.

What is fintech SEO?

Fintech SEO is SEO for financial technology products such as payment apps, lending platforms and investing apps. On top of YMYL and compliance rules, it focuses on feature pages, fair comparison pages, help centre content and country pages that match where the product is licensed.

How much does SEO for a financial services company cost?

It varies widely with site size, markets and content volume. Win Market Agency charges USD 500 per month for SEO, and the SEO audit is free.

Can a finance SEO agency guarantee first place on Google?

No. Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, and advises you to find someone else if an SEO promises it. In finance, a guarantee also warns you how the agency will write your content.
